President of the Springfield Park Board for over 17 years, Leslie Sgro still loves her job. Whether it is helping to build a new, fully accessible, environmentally friendly park or renovate one of the oldest parks in the city, Leslie still finds joy in the process and in providing safe, beautiful places to recreate in Springfield. She also serves as Deputy Director for the State of Illinois Department of Natural Resources, overseeing protection and enhancement of open spaces and outdoor activities throughout the State. Married to Greg Sgro, a local attorney, they have three children Ben, Sarah and Nicholas, who have grown up using and enjoying parks.
