The Illinois Senior Olympics Games, sponsored by the Springfield Park District in conjunction with the ISO Advisory Board, were created to promote active lifestyles for seniors. Each year more than 900 men and women, 50 years of age and older, come together to participate in competitive and recreational sporting events. Typically the games are held every 3rd and 4th weeks of September, with the exception of cycling which takes place in summer.
Illinois Senior Olympics is the only qualifying site in Illinois where you can compete for the National Senior Games, which attract approximately 12,000 athletes and are held every odd year throughout the country. In 2009 the National Games will be held in the San Francisco Bay Area.
