In 2021, the Springfield Park District was presented with a generous donation from the Betty Mood Smith Trust to make improvements in Comer Cox Park. Humbled by this unprecedented gift, the Springfield Park District initiated a large-scale development project designed to create unique outdoor recreation opportunities to the Comer Cox Park neighborhood and the Springfield community.

The Springfield Park District quickly engaged professional skate park designers and builders “Spohn Ranch” to design and construct a top-notch pump track for the community. The Springfield Park District held a series of public input sessions to provide the community with an opportunity to share in the design of the new pump track. Together, with the generous support from the Betty Mood Smith Trust, coupled with an engaging community-based design process, the new pump track was conceptualized, designed, and constructed in record time.
