Transforming Lincoln Park into a Fully Inclusive Community Destination
Thanks to a generous $600,000 grant award from the State of Illinois, the Springfield Park District is excited to begin a major redevelopment project at Lincoln Park - focused on accessibility, inclusivity, and enhanced recreational features for all.
Construction Timeline
- August 11, 2025 - Construction zone fencing will be installed. The area will be closed to the public for safety.
- August 18, 2025 - Playground construction officially begins.
Key Features of the Redevelopment
- Inclusive Playground - A state-of-the-art play space designed for children of all abilities. Features include textured surfacing, sensory play panels, and tactile elements to support a variety of sensory and physical needs.
- Large Wooden Park Shelters - Two new 30'x40' shelters with concrete pads, located near the playground and horseshoe courts- perfect for picnics and gatherings.
- Energy-Efficient Lighting - Outdated lighting will be replaced with LED fixtures for a brighter, safer park environment.
- Nature-Inspired Multi-Court Play Area - Includes hopscotch, four square, a half basketball court, and a trike path-inviting activity for all ages levels.
- Passive Recreation Area - Featuring bench swings, butterfly and pollinator gardens, a story walk, and educational signage to connect visitors with nature.
- Additional Amenities - New benches, picnic tables, bike racks, and trash receptacles will be placed throughout the park for increased visitor convenience.
