Springfield, IL – The Springfield Park District is pleased to announce the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly renovated Nelson Center Ice Rink, taking place on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Nelson Center Ice Rink, located within Lincoln Park.
The renovation project enhances the experience for skaters, athletes, families, and visitors by improving facility amenities, increasing comfort, and elevating overall guest experience. These updates support the District’s mission to enrich lives through recreation, community engagement, and accessible spaces for all.
“We are excited to reopen the Nelson Center Ice Rink with significant improvements that will benefit our community for years to come,” said Leslie Sgro, Park Board President. “This facility is beloved and heavily used for public skating, hockey, figure skating, and events. We are proud to celebrate this major renovation and the joy it will bring so many in our community.”
The event will include remarks from Springfield Park District leadership and community partners, a ceremonial ribbon cutting, and an opportunity for guests to tour the updated facility. Attendees are encouraged to stay after the ceremony to enjoy the Jr. Blues hockey game.
