Outdoor Skating Ponds

1/28/2026

Today is Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
At this time, outdoor skating ponds at Washington Park, Lincoln Park, and Southwind Park remain CLOSED, as ice has not yet reached the required thickness for safe skating. The Springfield Park District will continue to closely monitor ice conditions daily.

Reminder to defer to the park signage daily for final guidance on skating conditions and will be kept up to date.
- Signs are covered when conditions are safe for skating.
- Signs will read “NO SKATING” when conditions are unsafe.

Please call 217-544-1751 for more information.

PLEASE NOTE: The Park District will post Outdoor Winter Ice Skating Conditions at springfieldparks.org on our Featured News and Articles page as well as on Social Media Monday – Friday, during normal business hours.

Ice fishing is NOT permitted on Park District ponds.

These posts are “date stamped” – should you find a past date post, your final confirmation that it is safe to skate on outdoor ponds will always be posted on site at Washington Park, Lincoln Park and/or Southwind Park with the usage of park signage.

Signs are covered if conditions are good to skate and signs reveal NO SKATING if conditions are unsafe. When heading out to skate, be safe, never skate alone and always defer to the park signage daily for final guidance on whether skating is open.
